Geo performs geotechnical soil testing ranging from geological descriptions, sieve analysis, standard proctor tests to the most advanced strength and deformation tests. We advise the client in order to determine the most suitable set of tests for the actual problem or soil type, which may be custom made or in accordance with British Standard, DIN, CEN ISO and so on. We also carry out tests on foreign soil samples, for instance from Greenland, Zanzibar, Dubai etc.
Geo has the capability to test chalk, sandstone, clay shale and other rocks up to reservoir stress conditions (rock mechanics). We supply basic and index tests such as unconfined compression tests; Brazil tensile strength and Bambino index strength, as well as highly advanced strength and deformation tests.
For the last 25 years, Geo has performed tests on chalk, shale and sandstone for the oil companies in the North Sea area, in relation to CO2- and water injection, geothermic boreholes, wellbore stability, gas storage etc. (rock mechanics). We also carry out numerical modelling (back-calculation) of laboratory tests for the use of geomechanical models.
Geo is able to test soil samples up to 1 m in diameter, for instance fractured chalk, clay till or gravel. Our triaxial equipment is capable of testing full core specimens (10 cm) without specimen preparation. Geo also performs 3D tests at reservoir pressure or triaxial/ oedometer tests, at up to 200 degrees Celsius. For a number of our set ups, we are able to measure the acoustic velocity (p and s) through the specimen during testing. Our workshop designs and manufacture state-of-the-art equipment, which is tailor-made for the client’s specifications.
